Termite Monitoring for new and existing homes

Protecting Your Home with the Sentricon Always Active System

Why a Strong Termite Barrier Matters

Termite infestations are a serious threat in Australia, with damage to homes costing well over $100 million annually. To effectively guard against this risk, it’s essential to understand termite behaviour—how they live, what they seek, and where they’re vulnerable. In Western Australia, we primarily deal with subterranean termites that remain underground as they forage for food. With this knowledge in mind, Dow Chemicals developed the Sentricon Always Active system—a cutting-edge solution for termite monitoring and prevention.

What is Sentricon Always Active?

This innovative system involves a series of strategically placed in-ground stations around your property. Each unit contains a specially formulated attractant that not only lures termites but also acts as a termiticide. The result? You get a dual-action defence—both a protective barrier and a continuous monitoring network to detect termite activity before it becomes a problem.

How Sentricon Works

At the heart of each station is a bait rod infused with hexaflumuron, a substance that disrupts the termite moulting process by inhibiting chitin production. Without the ability to moult and form new exoskeletons, termites perish. What makes the system so effective is that termites share food through a process known as trophallaxis—transferring material mouth-to-mouth or via other social behaviours. As they feed and interact, the termiticide is spread throughout the colony, leading to its gradual eradication.

Station Placement and Protection Coverage

Each bait station is made from high-durability plastic and is buried at calculated intervals around your building. The stations include removable monitoring caps for easy access and maintenance. Once in place, they form an immediate perimeter of defence—your home’s first line of protection against foraging termites.

Monitoring and Maintenance

The Sentricon Always Active system is professionally installed and managed by Albany Pest Control technicians. When the system is set up, we log each station’s location and develop a customised monitoring schedule—usually every 3 to 6 months. If termite activity is detected, we act quickly, replacing the bait rods as needed and adjusting the strategy to ensure ongoing protection.

Trusted Experience with Sentricon

Albany Pest Control has unparalleled expertise in deploying and managing Sentricon systems. Our founder, Mark Moyle, began working with Sentricon in 1997 and was among only 32 professionals in Australia licensed to install the system at that time. By 2002, Mark was responsible for nearly 70% of all Sentricon installations across the country, including major sites such as Dreamworld, Royal Perth Hospital, the Swan Brewery, and even 10% of the town of Paraburdoo.

Mark’s expertise has even taken him internationally, assisting with termite protection systems at Gracelands in Memphis, USA, and The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. With over 14,000 colony eliminations under his belt, Mark and the Albany Pest Control team bring a wealth of knowledge to every project—no matter the size or location.

Introducing the Termiwatch DIY Monitoring System

Why DIY Detection Makes Sense

When it comes to termites, prevention is always better than cure. But how do you detect their presence before they reach your home? The answer is Termiwatch, a smart, cost-effective DIY detection system designed to alert you to termite activity before it leads to structural damage.

How Termiwatch Works

Termiwatch stations contain highly attractive Australian timber baits that are irresistible to local termite species. The wooden baits are buried just below the surface at key points around your home’s perimeter. Since termites are constantly foraging underground in search of cellulose-rich food sources like wood, they’re highly likely to encounter these stations during their routine search.

What You Gain with Early Detection

When termites feed on the bait, they reveal their presence. These stations are checked every two months for signs of activity. Catching them early can save you thousands of dollars in repairs and give you a chance to act before any damage occurs.

Designed and Made in Western Australia

Termiwatch is a 100% WA-designed system created specifically for the local termite environment. Importantly, it doesn’t attract termites from other properties—only those already foraging in your yard. The system is simple to use, reliable, and gives you valuable peace of mind.

Easy to Access and Install

Termiwatch is available for purchase online and comes with everything you need to get started. To learn more or to order your DIY monitoring kit, visit our dedicated Termiwatch site.
